The BFFs behind the small screen

Little did we know but in the drama world, these actresses were friends ever since. Having lots of friends in the industry is overwhelming, but having one, yet, true friend is extra ordinary.

     

Actress Lee Bo Young, who was recently married to actor Ji Sung, made her bestfriend sang in their wedding. And there is no other composer, actress, musician and singer that can do all that but the Boys Over Flowers actress Gu Hye Sun. Since 2005, both have known and worked together in the SBS drama series The Ballad of Seo Dong where Lee Bo Young played Princess Seon Hwa, while Gu Hye Sun played Eun Jin.

Actresses Song Hye Kyo, Lee Jin and Han Hye Jin were classmates in high school and they were dubbed as the “three pretty girls of Eunkwang Girl's High School”.

Singer and actress Bae Suzy is obviously seen close to the also singer and actress IU. They knew each other before the TV series Dream High, but grew closer during and after the film. They support each other like sisters, encouraging and supporting morally.

"We often support and comfort each other," said Suzy. "We're both busy but we text. Sometimes I complain about action scenes because they're hard and we give each other strength."

Suzy praises her friends acting. "I think she's really good and she has a lot of fun doing it. We talk about acting a lot."

When IU worried about taking the starring role in "You're The Best Lee Soon Shin," Suzy encouraged her.

"She told me to go for it," said IU.

     

Lastly are best friends, Jung Ga Eun (The Master’s Sun) and Hwang In Young. Jung is said to frequently visit her bestfriend’s new project film, “Hero”.

It’s always good to know there is a friend you can count in when you feel down or gloomy, especially in the entertainment industry where a lot of discouragement comes the way.

Haeundae: Korean Movie Review

This Korean movie revolves mainly in the realm of the beautiful beach “Haeundae” together with the people around it.

  The Venue

Haeundae (gu) district is located in Eastern Busan, South Korea with an area of 51.44 km2 and a population of about 423,000. Busan has a best known beautiful beach named Haeundae Beach. Because of its easy access from the downtown area, it attracts many Koreans and foreign tourists alike. The beach is located southeast end of the city of Busan. The beach is busy all year round because many beach-related events and some festivals are held here.  

The Production

To consider as one of Korea’s all-time top grossing films, Haeundae had a budget estimate of 10-15 million USD, one of the largest for a Korean production. After enclosing the film, director Yoon Je-kyoon expressed his words saying, “My heart is too full for words. I thank the actors who had to go through such hard work, the American staff and the Korean staff who were in the same boat with me to the last.” He added, “I will aim for perfection with post-production to bring audiences a film that won’t disappoint in the summer of 2009.”  

The Story

The story is about love, family and friendship. Choi Man-sik (Sol Kyung-gu) has been local in Haeundae for a long time. He runs a seafood restaurant joint by the sea and he is in love with Kang Yeon-hee (Ha Ji-won), a hopeful seafood restaurant owner too, and plans to propose to her. Choi Hyeong-sik (Lee Min-ki), Man-sik’s younger brother, is a life guard and meets the wealthy college student from Seoul, Kim Hee-mi (Kang Ye-won).

On the other hand, Kim Hwi (Park Joong-hoon) is a marine geologist and divorced to Lee Yoo-jin and they had a daughter. Hwi first notice a strange activity in the Sea of Japan, similar to the 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake and later the Disaster Prevention Agency, finds out that an undersea earthquake occurred and a huge tidal wave starts to travel rapidly towards Haeundae. Too late, the tourists and the locals only got minutes to escape and run for their lives. As the sea devoured Haeundae, many lives were taken. But like after any tragedy, a new hope will emerge.

There is no bigger than BIG: Korean TV Series Review of Big

The 2012 Korean TV series ‘Big’ stars actor Gong Yoo, actress Lee Min Jung and Suzy (member of the Korean female group Miss A). Big is the newest Korean drama series premiered last June 4, 2012, from the writers of the popular dramas such as ‘He’s Beautiful!’, ‘My Girlfriend is a Nine Tailed Fox’ and ‘The Greatest Love’.

This koreanovela is about a successful 30-year old doctor, Seo Yoon Jae (Gong Yoo), who switched bodies with an 18-year old student, Kang Kyung Joon (Shin Woo Ho), which happened after a car accident. The story goes as Yoon Jae’s fiancé, Gil Da Ran (Lee Min Jung), found out that her boyfriend is not him anymore but her high school student and had to cancel their wedding! While Jang Mari (Bae Suzy), Kyung Joon’s admirer, tries to get his soul back to his original body.

Gong Yoo as Seo Yoon Jae

Yoo is seen in the Korean romantic comedy series ‘The 1^st Shop Coffee Prince’ and was admired by many fans. Despite his funny antics and comic roles, his charisma and appealing personality won the hearts of many girls. The drama became popular in 2007 and made Gong Yoo a hallyu star or the increase popularity of persons or group in Korea’s entertainment industry. Now he stars in the TV series ‘Big’ appearing again in small screen after 5 years since his last drama series appearance.

Lee Min Jung as Gil Da Ran

Lee is a high school teacher that will capture the heart of Gong Yoo. She started her career in the  entertainment industry at the age of 25 and became popular in 2008 in the famous TV series Boys Over Flowers. In her latest film Wonderful Radio, she received many acclaims when she successfully played her role as a pop diva.

Bae Suzy as Jang Ma Ri

Bae Soo Ji (in real life), is an actress, model, MC, singer and the member of the Korean girl group Miss A. Suzy made her acting debut in the TV series Dream High. She also received the Best New Actress Award in the 48^th Paeksang Awards in her korean movie Architecture 101. Now she plays as Jang Mari, Kyung Joon’s friend.

Shin Won Ho as Kang Kyung Joon

Won Ho is an actor, model and the vocalist of the Kpop boy group Cross Gene. He debuted in a Bean Pole CF in 2011 with Big Bang’s G-Dragon. Now he plays the wistful student Kyung Joon.

The Slave Man with a Brave Heart; Korean Drama Review of “Chuno”

Remember the romantic Korean movie ‘Windstruck’? How about the funny Korean TV series ‘My Girl’? Or the romantic comedy Korean series ‘Couple or Trouble’?

These shows were also portrayed by the leading actors and actress of the historical Korean drama series Chuno, but this time with a different twist. The story is set in the time of the Joseon Dynasty, where the time of political turmoil and slaves and slave hunters still exist. The Korean fictional drama depicts the lives of slaves, how they were treated and the slave hunters that hunts down runaway slaves.

From funny and comic characters, turns into a bold and more compelling roles. The characters of Lee Dae Gil (Jang Hyuk, Windstuck); Song Tae Ha (Oh Ji Ho, Couple or Trouble) and Un Nyeon / Kim Hye Won (Lee Da Hae, My Girl).

Lee Dae Gil (Jang Hyuk)– born in nobility and abundance, his life was ruined by his half-brother, thus, losing everything he has including the woman he is suppose to marry, Un Nyeon.  He manages to live in the harsh environment and turns into a slave hunter. But above all, he dedicated his life in searching for Un Nyeon, the woman he loves.

Song Tae Ha (Oh Ji Ho)– a General wrongly accused of a crime, so he was punished and demoted as a slave. He runs away, and soon finds Un Nyeon and develops a relationship with her.

Un Nyeon / Kim Hye Won  (Lee Da Hae)– a slave but when she ran away from Dae Gil, she became a middle class citizen with the help of her half-brother and changed her name to Hye Won. She and Dae Gil are supposed to be married but after the incident, she meets Tae Ha and goes to a journey with him.

 These versatile actors and actress, including the other casts, portrayed very good characters in the story, making the Korean series phenomenal. Thus, jumping from one role to another is not that hard for the artists. Jang Hyuk, was nominated as Best Actor for the 2011 International Emmy Awards. The Korean series was praised not just locally but also across the globe.

Indeed, Chuno is another must watch korean drama of all time along with Dong Yi, Jewel in the Palace, Jumong, and other historical korean story adaptation nowadays.
