The BFFs behind the small screen

Little did we know but in the drama world, these actresses were friends ever since. Having lots of friends in the industry is overwhelming, but having one, yet, true friend is extra ordinary.

Actress Lee Bo Young, who was recently married to actor Ji Sung, made her bestfriend sang in their wedding. And there is no other composer, actress, musician and singer that can do all that but the Boys Over Flowers actress Gu Hye Sun. Since 2005, both have known and worked together in the SBS drama series The Ballad of Seo Dong where Lee Bo Young played Princess Seon Hwa, while Gu Hye Sun played Eun Jin.

Actresses Song Hye Kyo, Lee Jin and Han Hye Jin were classmates in high school and they were dubbed as the “three pretty girls of Eunkwang Girl's High School”.

Singer and actress Bae Suzy is obviously seen close to the also singer and actress IU. They knew each other before the TV series Dream High, but grew closer during and after the film. They support each other like sisters, encouraging and supporting morally.

"We often support and comfort each other," said Suzy. "We're both busy but we text. Sometimes I complain about action scenes because they're hard and we give each other strength."

Suzy praises her friends acting. "I think she's really good and she has a lot of fun doing it. We talk about acting a lot."

When IU worried about taking the starring role in "You're The Best Lee Soon Shin," Suzy encouraged her.
"She told me to go for it," said IU.

Lastly are best friends, Jung Ga Eun (The Master’s Sun) and Hwang In Young. Jung is said to frequently visit her bestfriend’s new project film, “Hero”.

It’s always good to know there is a friend you can count in when you feel down or gloomy, especially in the entertainment industry where a lot of discouragement comes the way.

In the high ranking drama “I Hear Your Voice”, the casts made a vacation after an exhausting yet fulfilling completion of the drama.

All the staff and cast including Lee Bo Young, Lee Da Hee, Yoon Sang Hyun, Jung WoongIn and Choi Sung Joon went on a three-night and four-day relaxing trip to Phuket last August 8. Lee Da Hee uploaded photos on her me2day at the airport and she looks really excited

It is said that the trip was planned even before the drama started, and Choi Sung Joon stated in an interview, “Having a successful drama and leaving for a reward vacation is very rare,” and “But ever since our first script reading, Bo Young nuna suggested that we all go overseas together if the ratings go over 23%. Luckily, the ratings were very good so we are leaving for a vacation.”

Hwang Jin-Yi: Korean TV Series Reviewed

The Korean TV series “Hwang Jin Yi” is based on the life of a famous 16th-century Gisaeng, who is admired in her time with her exceptional beauty and extraordinary intelligence. The Korean hit series depicts the life, struggles and pursuit of Hwang Jin Yi, in perfection of her art.

“Flowers that Understand”, this is what the representation of Giseang in the old age. Why? For a simple reason, it’s because of their intelligence and indigenous beauty.

Gisaeng emerged in the Goryeo Dynasty and they are like Japan’s Geisha. They were trained and attained knowledge in arts, music and poetry. Lee Don-soo, an art historian, insists that original Gisaeng are not sexual objects but rather “entertainers who had intelligence”. Their task is to entertain kings and aristocrats but often ignored because of their inferior social status. Sometimes they help in the army bases offering medical care and needle works.

A Gisaeng’s life became an inspiration for the women to stand up in the dominant world of men and showcase the skills they have. Nowadays, Gisaeng are known not just of beauty but examples of women strength. That strength became the pillars of today’s women to focus more on careers and rise in business and politics.

Ha Ji-won as Hwang Jin Yi, the South Korean actress who played the role of Hwang Jin Yi (Ha Ji-won) was pleased to portray her character in this TV series. And she quoted “I respect Hwang Jin-Yi myself and envy her for having such talent and strength”. She said that Korean women hoping to gain assertiveness in their society found a role model in the famous Gisaeng.

To prepare for the series, Ji-won said that she spent time in learning the traditional dances, string instruments and drum playing. In one scene, she said, she walked on a high rope without using a double or safety harness. Challenging indeed!

This Korean drama gained popularity and made an impact to many and an interest about the Gisaeng grew more.

Marry Me Mary: A Korean Drama Series to Brighten Up Your Gloomy Day

This is the continuation of my last post yesterday about Jang Geun –suk.  Let me make a review on his top korean drama series Marry me Mary also known as Marry Stayed Out All Night.

Synopsis:

Ui Mae Ri or Mary (Moon Geun-Young) is a stubborn but cheerful daughter of an unsuccessful businessman (Wi Dae Han) who always runaway from debtors. She doesn’t have much experience in dating until she meets the rock star wannabe Kang Moo Kyul (Jang Geun-suk) when she nearly hit him with her car.

Mary

Kang Moo Kyul

Jung In

Kang is a lead vocalist of an amateur rock band. With his good looks and exceptional talent in music, he had lots of offer from recording companies, however he declined them because he want to stick with his band mates as he treated them as part of his family.

Their complicated life start when Mary asked for the help of Moo Kyul to pretend that they are lovers since her father will arrange amarriage between her and Jung In (Kim Jae-Wook), a businessman and the son of his old friend to repay all his debt. Mary and Moo Kyul set a fake marriage to show his father that she’s already committed to Kyul. But her father falsified her signature to make her marriage to the other guy legal. Mary reluctantly agreed with it because his father will be charged with fraud.

On the other hand, Jung In only accepted the arranged marriage just to obey his father’s will and for the sake of his entertainment business as well. He set a 100 day deal with Mary and Moo Kyul to think things over and let Mary choose between him and the other guy.

Later on, they started to fall for each other (Moo Kyul -> Mary, Mary -> Moo Kyul, Jung In -> Mary), complicated indeed!

Personal View:

At first, the story is very complicated but as you go deeper with it, you will see how lovely and romantic it can be, especially with the love story of Mary and Moo Kyul. The guy has a very cold heart in the beginning but as he learned to love the girl, he suddenly changed to a loving and sweet guy.  A typical story yet romantic and funny in some way, this is what Marry Me Mary is all about.

This korean drama is a must watch and I’m pretty sure everyone can relate to it.

Korean Drama Review: My Girlfriend is a Gumiho

Why My Girlfriend is a Gumiho is well accepted by the Filipinos? For a simple reason – it brings laughter.  This is one of the few Korean drama that offers everything you needed to watch in a tv series (comedy, light drama and of course romance).

Story Plot:

Basically, the story revolves around the life of Dae Woong (Lee Seung Gi and how he fell in love with the beautiful Miho (Gumiho -  nine-tail-fox from a painting) - love story between a human and a fox.

Ever since the Gumiho (Shin Min Ah) wanted to be a human, and then Grandma Samshin (akin mother earth in folklore), gave the Gumiho a chance to fulfill her outmost dream. Unfortunately, due to her “goddess human image”, she captured the heart of all the guys in the community where she lives in. Out of loathing, the women in the village spread humors that she will eat all the men in their place, which made her supposed to be fiance, abandoned her and she already missed her chance to become human and worst, she’s been trapped in the painting with the akin mother earth.

One fine day, Dae Woong, a seditious, unusual guy but a talented artist, accidentally releases the Gumiho. With his astonishment, Woong accidentally fell off the shrine and is badly hurt. Miho helps him by giving her “bead” (a mana which is the source of her strength and life). After that event, Miho always follow Dae Woong to protect her bead.

At first, Wong was annoyed by Miho because she always follow him wherever he goes but as day passes by, he eventually falls for the Gumiho.

Generally, the story is very interesting and I will highly recommend this koreanovela to everyone. I’m pretty sure they will fall in love with the story and the characters as well.

Relive the funny and romantic moments of Miho and Dae Woong all over again. You can download and watch My Girlfriend is a Gumiho at:

The Newest Version of James Bond; Rain Bi in Runaway:Plan B

Superstar singer-turned-korean actor Rain Bi stars on an action packed korean drama “Runaway: Plan B” before he goes in the military to fulfill his responsibility as the citizen of Korea.

This series is very familiar to Bi since he already did a project similar to this one, a.k.a A Love To Kill. He plays the role of Ji Woo, a lawless and somewhat funny private investigator, based out of South Korea but internationally linked. He then gets hired by a beautiful, mysterious and with a big fat bullseye on her back Jin Yi (Lee NaYoung) to find her Melchidec and the people who killed her whole family. Also, NaYoung has a curse that some menaces have killed every guy she ever loved except from Kia (Daniel Henney), the rich and handsome “current” boyfriend of NaYoung.

Ji Woo

Jin Yi

Kia

On the other hand, Chief Detective Do Soo (Lee Jung Jin), a rebellious yet handsome police detective that will do anything just to arrest Ji Woo due to the so called PI which is unlawful in the ROK. But, that’s not all. Do Soo’s antagonisms of Ji Woo start some years ago when the detective has been closely shot in the chest by Rain 10 years ago. However, Ji Woo planned it just to spare the life of Do Soo and the later part misunderstood it and thought that Rain Bi is trying to kill him (which is totally a false accusation).

Chief Detective Do Soo

Honestly, this korean drama series is like hitting two birds in one stone, probably three. With a touch of action, romance and some comedy, what else can you ask for? Although despite of a lot of running, well that’s why it’s called Runaway: Plan B, it is a must watch for people who wants to see an action packed drama series plus Rain Bi on it. Isn't it nice?
